Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 15 July 2026

These terms apply to your use of the FTA (Food Transparency Assurance) website, demo content, and pilot programme. FTA is in an early, controlled pilot stage — please read this page alongside our Privacy Policy.

1. What FTA is

FTA is an independent public food safety intelligence platform. It organizes publicly available food safety information and restaurant-submitted transparency records so diners and restaurant owners can review the evidence for themselves.

2. What FTA is not

  • FTA is not a government authority, local council, or regulator.
  • FTA does not inspect restaurants and does not carry out food hygiene inspections.
  • FTA does not issue official hygiene ratings, approvals, or certifications, and no content on FTA should be read as an official rating or government approval.
  • FTA does not guarantee that any restaurant is safe, and does not provide medical, allergy, or legal advice. Always check official sources and speak directly with a restaurant about allergens or dietary needs before ordering.

3. Demo and illustrative content

Some content on FTA — including the public demo transparency profile — uses illustrative, non-live sample data to demonstrate how the platform works. Illustrative content is clearly labelled and does not represent a real, currently operating restaurant record.

4. Consulting official sources

Where official food hygiene ratings, inspection reports, or regulatory information exist for a restaurant, you should consult the relevant official source directly. FTA is intended to add context alongside official information, not to replace it.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Submit false, misleading, or defamatory information about a restaurant or any other person.
  • Attempt to bypass, disable, or interfere with FTA's access controls, rate limits, or other security measures.
  • Use FTA to harass, impersonate, or misrepresent yourself or any restaurant.
  • Scrape, republish, or commercially exploit FTA content without permission.

6. Restaurant pilot participation

Restaurant pilot access is granted at FTA's discretion following a review of each request. Submitting a pilot access request does not create an account, publish a restaurant profile, or imply endorsement by FTA. Approved restaurants are responsible for the accuracy of information they submit for their own transparency profile.

7. Limitation of liability

FTA is provided on an early-stage, pilot basis, without warranties of completeness, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, FTA is not liable for decisions made in reliance on content displayed on the platform, including demo or illustrative content. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK law.

8. Changes to these terms

As FTA is in active pilot development, these terms may change. We will update the "last updated" date above when they do. Continued use of FTA after a change means you accept the updated terms.
