Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 July 2026
FTA (Food Transparency Assurance) is currently in an early, controlled pilot stage. This policy explains, at a high level, what personal data FTA collects, why, and what rights you have. It is written for the UK and will be reviewed and expanded as the platform develops beyond pilot stage.
1. Who we are
FTA is an independent public food safety intelligence platform. For any privacy question, contact fta-team@foodtransparencyapp.com.
2. What data we collect
Depending on how you use FTA, we may collect:
- Account data — name, email address, and role (such as diner, restaurant owner, or administrator) for anyone who creates an FTA account.
- Pilot enquiry data — information submitted through a pilot access request or sign-up form, such as restaurant name, role, city, and message content.
- Consumer Early Community data — if you register your interest on our /join page, we collect your email address and, only where you choose to provide them, your first name and city or area. We also record basic campaign attribution (such as UTM parameters and the referring page) so we can understand how people find FTA.
- Contact form data — anything you send us directly by email or through a contact or feedback form.
- Restaurant profile information — content that a restaurant owner submits about their own restaurant for publication on a transparency profile, such as hygiene practices, allergen information, and timeline updates.
- Usage and analytics data — basic technical and interaction data (such as pages viewed and general engagement with key actions) used to understand how the site is used. We do not currently run third-party advertising trackers on the site beyond what is disclosed here.
3. How we use this data
- To operate accounts and restaurant transparency profiles.
- To review and respond to pilot access requests and contact enquiries.
- To send product, launch and participating-restaurant updates to people who register with our Consumer Early Community, based on the consent given at registration, and to understand overall and geographic interest in FTA.
- To maintain the security, integrity, and abuse protections described on our Security page.
- To understand and improve how the site and pilot programme are used.
4. Sharing your data
We do not sell personal data. We may share limited data with service providers who help us run the platform (such as hosting or infrastructure providers), under obligations to protect it, and where required by law. Restaurant-submitted profile content that is approved for publication is, by design, publicly visible.
5. Data retention
We keep personal data for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected for — for example, for as long as an account is active, or for a reasonable period after a pilot enquiry to allow follow-up. FTA retains active early-community registration data while it is needed for the purposes described above and while your consent remains current. We review this information periodically. If you withdraw your consent, we stop using your information for marketing and retain only the minimum information needed to record and respect your preference. Retention practices will be reviewed and formalized further as FTA moves beyond pilot stage.
6. Your rights
Subject to applicable UK data protection law, you generally have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact fta-team@foodtransparencyapp.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
If you registered with our Consumer Early Community and no longer want to receive updates, you can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting fta-team@foodtransparencyapp.com. We will stop sending you updates and update our records accordingly.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
FTA may use essential cookies or similar local storage needed to operate the site (such as keeping you signed in), and basic analytics to understand site usage. We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies on the site.
8. Children
FTA is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
9. Changes to this policy
As FTA is in active pilot development, this policy may change as the platform evolves. We will update the "last updated" date above when it does.
